How to Share Your Internet Connection to Other Wired Computers..
So, you’ve got an internet connection that you’d like to share with other computers in your home or office, but not too sure on how to do that. This is actually a very simple task that we will now help you with.
Ideally, you will have several computers that need access to the internet and a live internet connection with a modem attached.
What you will need
- A network switch with the appropriate number of ports to allow you to connect your computers (e.g. if you have 5 computers, you will need a network switch with at least 6 ports. Plus 1 to your requirements)
- Network cables (1 cable per computer at the length required plus 1 x 1metre network cable)
How to?
- Turn off your internet modem, and unplug the cable it was using to connect to your computer whether it be a network or USB cable
- Attach the 1 metre network cable to the modem
- Attach the other end of the 1 meter network cable to the network switch
- Plug in each network cable to each corresponding computer (as determined by the user with cable length requirements)
- Plug all the computers' network cables into the network switch
- Turn on the internet modem
- Plug in the power adapter to the network switch and turn on the network switch if it has a power button (most do not)
- Test internet connection on all connected computers. You should now be up and running.
Troubleshoot
- If there is no internet connection on a computer, restart the computer
- If restarting the computer/s did not help, turn off the network switch then modem, wait 1 minute, then turn on the modem, wait 2 minutes then turn on the network switch, wait 30 seconds, restart computer, test for internet connection
