How to Clean Your Desktop Computer Case...
If you’ve ever looked inside a computer desktop case that has been running for over a year, you will see a large amount of dust collected inside the case and covering all the electrical components. Mobile Geeks have found more than dust in some computers, but that is something we will share with you in the Halloween edition of our newsletter.
Do you want to clean the inside of your computer? Yes, you do...that is if you want your machine to be healthy. Cleaing promotes airflow and helps the efficient dissipation of heat. This is particularly important in summer months when computers tend to overheat in poorly air-conditioned spaces.
Generally, you will find that dust likes to collect between a heatsink and fan, blocking the fans airflow onto the heatsink and thus causing components to heat up and possibly fail so, by performing easy computer maintenance, you may save yourself from needing to order a computer repair.
To clean your computer, simply follow the below easy steps.
- Ensure the computer is turned off
- Unplug the power cable from the back of the computer
- Remove the case’s side panel (usually done by undoing the two screws and then sliding the panel backwards). This panel is generally the left side panel when facing the computer from the front
- Use a can of compressed air and blow around inside the computer case (do not aim compressed air directly onto specific parts as it may blow the part off)
- Once the dust is removed, take a paint brush and carefully wipe the dust off the larger components
- Also use the paint brush to wipe the dust off the fan blades and the heatsinks
- Now you can once again use the can of compressed air to blow out remaining dust. The computer should now be clean.
- Reattach case side panel
- Secure any screws if necessary
- Plug in the power cord to the back of the computer. You are ready to go.
